Questions
About these maps.
Open data, drawn as recorded, with the limits stated.
What do the maps show?
Each map draws the recorded position of a destination’s mapped places to stay as a dot, labels the localities that hold the most of them, and lists the best-documented properties. It is a picture of where the hotel stock sits — not availability, price or quality.
Where do the positions come from?
From Overture Maps Places, an open dataset assembled from several map providers. Positions are used exactly as recorded; nothing is nudged, and a record that sits far outside its destination is left off the static map rather than stretching it.
Why is the street map loaded on request?
A street map needs about a megabyte of code plus tiles. Loading it only when a reader asks keeps every map page fast on a phone and lets the density picture, the area figures and the property list render instantly.
Can I get the phone number of a hotel on a map?
Yes. Every destination map links to its phone directory, and the interactive map shows a tap-to-call number for any property that publishes one.
